Plan a realistic publication timeline

Publication time can depend on subject assessment, reviewer availability, revisions and final production. Separate the time spent before acceptance from processing after acceptance. If you have an institutional deadline, tell the editor before submission and ask whether the expected schedule is feasible.

Keep a complete manuscript record

Maintain the submitted file, decision messages, revision responses and the final approved version together. Check that the title and author order stay consistent between the manuscript and submission form. When a change affects authorship or a central result, discuss it with the coauthors and editor instead of silently replacing the record.
