Research paper publication process

Follow practical preparation and publication steps, from manuscript checks to the final article record.

Understand the publication stages

The usual workflow moves from submission to editorial assessment, review or revision as applicable, acceptance and final publication processing. A request for revision is not the same as acceptance. Keep the decision letter and respond to each requested change with a clear explanation of what was amended.

Your preparation checklist

  • Track submission and decision dates
  • Distinguish revision from acceptance
  • Prepare a point-by-point response
  • Check the final publication record

Keep a complete manuscript record

Maintain the submitted file, decision messages, revision responses and the final approved version together. Check that the title and author order stay consistent between the manuscript and submission form. When a change affects authorship or a central result, discuss it with the coauthors and editor instead of silently replacing the record.
