Research paper publication for undergraduate students
Prepare a clear, evidence-based student manuscript and check your institution's publication requirements.
Move undergraduate work toward publication
Undergraduate researchers can prepare useful manuscripts from a carefully designed experiment, analysis or review. Keep the scope manageable: a clearly evaluated result is more convincing than a broad claim without evidence. Explain what the study can and cannot demonstrate, and avoid describing a classroom prototype as a validated production system.
Your preparation checklist
- Define a manageable question
- Compare the work with relevant literature
- Report results with units and uncertainty where relevant
- Disclose limitations of the sample or prototype
Work with your guide and coauthors
Discuss the target journal and authorship before submitting. Every named author should approve the final text and understand the claims being made. Check whether your institution requires prior permission, a specific recognised journal or a DOI. Keep a copy of the approved manuscript so any later changes can be reviewed together.
