Abstract
The rapid rise of e-commerce has changed the structure of Indian markets by boosting customer choice, lowering search costs, and allowing firms to reach a larger market. At the same time, digital platforms have raised new competition issues about platform neutrality, data usage, search rankings, preferential treatment, exclusive deals, and substantial discounts. In response to these developments, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) launched its Market Study on E-Commerce in India in April 2019, and its Key Findings and Observations were published on January 8, 2020. The study focused on e-commerce in consumer products, lodging, and food services and includes broad consultation with platforms, enterprises, industry associations, and payment-system suppliers.
