Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by joint inflammation and progressive cartilage destruction. Current therapeutic approaches, including NSAIDs and DMARDs, often present significant adverse effects. This study evaluates the therapeutic potential of Bay leaf (Laurus nobilis), a medicinal herb traditionally used for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Recent pharmacological evidence suggests that bioactive compounds like eugenol, linalool, and flavonoids in bay leaf can modulate inflammatory pathways by inhibiting pro-inflammatory mediators such as TNF-α and IL-1β. Experimental models indicate that bay leaf extracts reduce paw edema and joint swelling, suggesting a promising complementary approach for managing RA symptoms.
