Abstract

ABSTRACT :

Audava Rāgas are the set of Janya Rāgas which has only 5 swaras in both its Ārōhaṇa and

Avarōhaṇa. They are called as Audava - Audava Rāgas or simply Audava Rāgas. These are the

pentatonic scales of Music. Audava Rāgas decorate the maximum versatile and diversified

melodies in Carnatic Music. Each Pentatonic scale has got its own unique aesthetic feel and

melody character which is distinct from others. The music world and music lovers are still familiar with only a couple of Pentatonic (Audava) Rāgas like Mōhanam, Hindōlam, Hamsadhwani, Madhyamāvathy, Ābhōgi, Śuddha dhanyāsi etc. that are so popular and well established, whereas Audava Rāgas like, Vīṇāvādini, Rathipathipriya, Yōgini, Nirostra, Vitapi, Vijaya vasantam, and many others are rarely been heard or remain unnoticed. Through This paper is indeed to explore the some un popular Audava rare ragas in Carnatic music.
