Abstract

Electricity and magnetism form the scientific basis of modern electrical and electronic technologies. Their unification through the theory of electromagnetism established the foundation for the design and operation of a wide range of electrical devices. This paper reviews the fundamental principles of electricity, magnetism, and electromagnetism and examines their applications in modern electrical systems. Particular attention is given to electric motors, generators, transformers, sensors, communication technologies, renewable energy systems, and consumer electronics. The study also discusses recent developments that have improved device performance, energy efficiency, and operational reliability, together with key challenges such as energy losses, material limitations, electromagnetic interference, and device miniaturization. Emerging areas, including wireless power transfer, advanced magnetic materials, superconducting technologies, and spintronics, are also considered to highlight future research directions. Overall, the discussion demonstrates that electromagnetic principles continue to play a central role in the development of efficient, reliable, and sustainable electrical technologies.
